Huge cemetery. Maze like construction with vendors at the only entrance. Haunting in the snow.
Beautiful place, quite and magical. Full of nice statues and great for a relaxing walk. I suggest to take a map of the famous tombs, cause the cemetery is really large and it's impossible to see everything. We visited just at the beginnig of a thunderstorm and the atmosphere was amazing, the wind blown between the tombs and made the leaves dance.

historical place
Dear friends! I must disappoint those who want to get acquainted with the history of the Vagankovsky cemetery; read about it in other sources. I want to share my perception of this historical cemetery, where the ashes of many great theater and film actors, cultural figures, poets and writers, conductors, musicians, scientists, Olympic champions and famous coaches, as well as Freemasons, the richest entrepreneurs and members of their families rest. On the territory of the cemetery there is the Church of the Resurrection of the Word, where the funeral service is held for the deceased who are buried here. I visited this historical place for the second time today and ordered a prayer service at the church for health and repose. Attention! Do not forget that I am blind and my perception of any place is very peculiar and subjective. When I walked along the alleys of the Vagankovsky cemetery and the companion accompanying me read names to me and told me about monuments and all kinds of statues on the graves, naturally, certain images appeared before my inner gaze and, in a sense, like reflections and shadows, some of them accompanied me on a pleasant walk through the autumn cemetery. I'll explain why in a nice way. Because to visit the graves of poets and actors dear to my heart, such as Vladimir Vysotsky, Sergei Yesenin, Igor Talkov, Marina Tsvetaeva, Alexander Abdulov. And every time I approached the grave, laying flowers, I turned to God for the repose of the departed, as many Orthodox Christians probably did before me. I believe that the souls of most of the deceased, whose ashes rest in this famous cemetery, are in heaven! And those who passed away in some, perhaps tragic, unexpected way, may the All-Merciful God forgive them and have mercy🙏. Now I understand why there are traditions abroad of walking through cemeteries. Because this is not just a cemetery, but the history of our State in persons. And of course, many monuments, like the cemetery itself, have historical, cultural and spiritual value for many residents of our country.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother, our reverend and God-bearing fathers and all saints, have mercy on us. Amen. And everyone who rests at the Vagankovsky cemetery and all Orthodox Christians. Your blind guide to Moscow, as well as radio host, singer, who has recorded duets with many stars, Viktor Tartanov😎
My friends and I decided that we had already been everywhere. Except for Moscow cemeteries. We arranged a tour for ourselves. I liked Vagankovskoye least of all. A typical rural churchyard, only huge. You can’t get to most of the graves: everything is blocked off by fences standing close together. Without a guide, the devil will break his leg there, that’s why there are so many of them for every taste and color. If you want to see an interesting and atmospheric cemetery, go to Donskoye. If you want to see monuments to famous people, go to Novodevichye. Don't expect much from Vagankovsky
Since we live next to the Vagankovsky cemetery, we could not help but visit it, because... famous personalities, figures, Decembrists and participants of Borodino are buried here... This sounds strange, because a walk through the cemetery is dubious entertainment, but think about it during your lifetime you could not talk with Yesenin, Vysotsky, Okudzhava, etc. because lived in different periods of time and even eras, but it’s cool to come to the last refuge and pay tribute... Pompous monuments and very modest ones like Okudzhava’s) you can immediately see where the graves of criminal authorities are, and where are the bandits from the dashing 90s... Here even They give tours, but it’s better to download a map and don’t pay money for something that you can find and see for yourself) in general, the history of the cemetery itself is interesting, it dates back to the 17th century) but it’s better for you to read the history yourself. And if you have the opportunity to visit, be sure to do so, you will not lose either money or time)))
